On Saturday, October 29th Dr. Mario Cappelli had the privilege of being the keynote speaker for the sixth annual Kaleidoscope of Hope Gala, one of Ottawa’s premier events to raise funds for youth mental health and suicide prevention.
Many of our youth suffer from anxiety, depression, and eatingdisorders; many are bullied. Tragically, the result is often suicide ideation, suicide attempts, or suicide.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth in Ottawa. Canada’s youth suicide rate is the fourth highest among OECD countries. One in five youth suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder, yet only one in three youth are able to access services.
The Kaleidoscope of Hope Gala participants reinforced an important message to our youth – you are not alone; there is help and treatment.
Kaleidoscope of Hope is committed to supporting the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), Do It For Daron (DIFD), and the Youth Services Bureau (YSB). We all are working diligently to deliver the messages – Life is worth living. Life can get better. There is help.
