Dr. Vloet is currently on leave from Cappelli and Associates.


Melissa Vloet earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa.  She is currently working in the Day Treatment Program at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and is in Supervised Practice with Dr. Cappelli.

Melissa has had the good fortune of working in a variety of mental health programs and teams at CHEO. This has provided her with invaluable hands-on experience working with children, teens and young adults who are challenged with complex problems and disorders. She has quickly become a sought-after therapist by families and a highly regarded colleague by those who work with her.

At Cappelli & Associates, Melissa’s genuine personality, warmth, compassion and her sense of humour help create safe, trusting relationships with the young people she works with. Her commitment to collaboration ensures that assessment and treatment are focused on addressing client needs, while at the same time, fostering their strengths and promoting resiliency. Melissa uses an integrated approach tailored to the individual and is well versed in a number of therapy methods including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), as well as experiential, interpersonal and dialectical-behavioural approaches.

In addition to her clinical work, Melissa has developed expertise in health systems and public policy research. She is a graduate of the Canadian Child Health Clinician-Scientist Program and has received grants and awards from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Mental Health Commission of Canada, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa, and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.

Melissa received her BA (Honours in Psychology) from the University of Prince Edward Island, her MA from and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Ottawa.
